Golf in Vancouver BC

Mellow winters, lush landscapes and a great choice of championship courses have made Vancouver and surrounding areas a preferred destination for golf addicts. Golf in BC has enjoyed a boom over the last few years and in 2007 the province was named Golf Destination of the Year for North America.

Metro Vancouver
Golf in Vancouver BCThere are close to 60 golf courses within an hour’s drive of Vancouver so there’s plenty of choice.
There are a handful of members-only enclaves but most courses are semi-private with a few good public courses thrown into the mix. One of the closest golf courses to downtown Vancouver is the well-regarded Fraserview Golf Course run by Vancouver Park Board.

Another popular public course within easy reach is University Golf Club situated next door to UBC.  Local golfers rave about the pristine greens and fairways of Morgan Creek which usually hold up well in the wettest weather. The championship course lies 20 minutes south of Vancouver International Airport. North of Vancouver off the Sea-to-Sky Highway is the scenic wonder of Furry Creek Golf & Country Club. Players can enjoy the natural drama of a course which is squeezed between rock and water and a 14th hole that sticks out on a peninsula into Howe Sound.

While the peak summer months are great in Vancouver spring and autumn golf can be extremely soggy.

Tips: The sport is hugely popular with locals and visitors, so wherever you choose to play always book tee times well in advance to avoid disappointment.
